A simple quote can change the way you work and the way you live. There are five quote cards pinned above my desk. These aren’t just words. They’re reminders that help me think better, focus more, and take care of what matters. I share what each quote means to me and why this week I decided to swap one out. In its place? “Do your best and forgive yourself,” a phrase that’s stuck with me since Mike Simmons brought it up. Dan Cockrell joins the episode to unpack in his own words, since it came from his grandfather. Jeff Noel also stops by to share the quotes that guide his life and work.

08:30 – How forgiveness fuels tomorrow’s best effort
Mike Simmons joins to bring back one of my favorite formats where a guest returns to ask three unscripted questions. The things he asks me dive into unexpected territory, from my favorite Marvel character (spoiler: it’s The Punisher) to the three life themes that have shown up in every role I’ve held: storytelling, recognition, and going the extra inch. Then, Mike brings up the quote that grounds so much of my work: “Do your best and forgive yourself,” passed down through the Cockerell family from Admiral Payne. I unpack what it really means to take action, accept outcomes, and keep moving forward, especially when things don’t go perfectly.
Read my blog for more on how this quote can reshape how you show up for yourself and others.

“If you rely on a change of the calendar and not a change of the mind to make a difference, you’re doing it wrong.”
You don’t need a new year to start, just new rules. There are six personal rules I’ve created to guide my year ahead. Since I was inspired to create my list, I wanted to share them with you in case they maybe inspire yours. Instead of relying on resolutions that often fade, I’m focusing on principles that will shape my daily life. From urgency and play to sleep and using more "four-letter words" (don’t worry, these are good words), each rule is a reflection of intention, not pressure.
Read my blog for more on why creating personal rules may work better than setting resolutions.
